To stay current with trends in senior living, Golden West staff and board actively support and learn from the key associations of aging services, such as the Colorado Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and the LeadingAge, and the local Boulder Valley community.
John has served in the aging services field for more than 30 years, including 16 years as Golden West’s executive director. A native of Boulder County, John is involved with the Colorado Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (former executive director, president, board member and mentor) and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). In 2002, John was awarded the Pacesetter Award by the Boulder Daily Camera for his leadership in aging services in Boulder County. Despite a busy schedule, John takes time to help nurture future leaders through mentoring, and in 2005, he was awarded the Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award by AAHSA. He says mentoring is one of his most rewarding activities.
Associate Director of Administration
Donna began her career with Golden West in 1993. She has remained with Golden West because she is proud to be part of a mission-driven nonprofit organization that provides such a needed service to the community. During her tenure Donna has held several positions, but since 1998, her passion and primary responsibility has been with human resources. Today, Donna also manages the assisted living and independent living department staff, who provide the direct services to the residents of Golden West. Donna has a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
Associate Director of Finance and Operations
A graduate of the accounting program at the University of Colorado, Denver, Tracy started as an accounting manager at Golden West in 1997. She made a career move to work in the information technology industry for about six years, and returned to Golden West as associate director of finance in 2006. She has stayed involved with Golden West throughout much of her career, serving on the board of the Golden West Foundation and holding positions as president and treasurer. Tracy believes that her work has a direct impact on the lives of the people around her, which she finds very rewarding.
Associate Director of Housing
Christine started working at Golden West in March 2008. As associate director of housing, Christine oversees independent living and resident services. Prior to joining the Golden West team, Christine spent 10 years working with a hospital management company that focused on rural hospitals and their surrounding communities. During that time she completed a master’s degree in gerontology from Naropa University in Boulder. Part of that program included an internship – which she completed here at Golden West – and she had been looking for an opportunity to come back ever since. Christine grew up in New Jersey and moved to Colorado in 1994 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Villanova University. Christine believes in the mission of Golden West and is glad to be a part of this community.
Director of Community Relations
Heidi was in charge of business development and marketing for Vincent, Romeo & Rodriquez, LLC. Prior to that she served as the long-term care ombudsman for the Boulder County Department of Aging Services, ombudsman for the California Department of Aging and senior marketing underwriter for the Employers Reinsurance Corporation in San Francisco. She holds a Master of Arts in clinical gerontology, a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in English.
Director of Resident Programs
Originally from Kansas, Jill moved to Colorado in 1977. After living in Wyoming for 15 years, Jill moved back to Colorado. Jill has nearly 20 years of experience in senior recreation, having worked for other senior living communities and several senior recreation centers in the past. Jill has degrees in human rehabilitative service and recreation administration with an emphasis in gerontology. Outside of work, Jill enjoys reading, puzzles, bike riding and playing in the mountains.
Resident Services Coordinator
Margie came to Golden West in September 2008. As resident services coordinator, she supports residents and their families with everything from local service referrals to state and federal funding resources. Margie earned her bachelor’s degree in social work and psychology from Syracuse University and a master’s in business administration from the University of Colorado. In 1975, Margie moved from New York to Colorado. She has worked in the nonprofit community for the past 20 years. As an active member of her professional community, she serves on the Advisory Committee for Project Hope, volunteered at Community Table, a volunteer effort to provide nutritious meals to those needing assistance in the community, and served on several nonprofit boards and advisory committees. Margie finds her work with seniors at Golden West some of the most rewarding work to date. She enjoys hiking with her family, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, as well as reading and playing Mahjong.
Assisted Living Resident Care Manager
Martina attended nursing school in her home country of Croatia. She moved to the United States in 1996 and began her career as a caregiver at the Christian Living Campus in Denver in 1997. She has been with Golden West for two years now. She loves working with older age groups because of the heightened amount of wisdom and knowledge they are able to offer her. She believes the residents are great teachers and she enjoys interacting with them. As Resident Care Manager of Golden West, Martina serves as a liaison between the doctors, pharmacies, residents and the residents’ families. Martina also teaches medication administration classes and is involved in the alternative healing field.
With 18 years of experience in housekeeping management, Dorothea, a Boulder native, is well-qualified for her position at Golden West, where she has been since 2002. Dorothea has a background in hospitality management and customer service, receiving various awards in leadership and management, including the Manager of the Year Award from the Millennium Hotel. She finds her work extremely rewarding because the residents are always appreciative.
Danny started with Golden West in 2003 and has been the maintenance manager since 2005. He has plenty of experience in this field, having been in the building maintenance and construction trade for 22 years. Danny is a Colorado native and has lived in Boulder for most of his life. He enjoys what he does because he likes working with seniors and appreciates a job that involves helping other people.
